Learn How to Sail

If You Want to Get Out on a Sailboat You Need to Learn the Basics

It can be daunting to get on a sailboat for the first time. With a seemingly endless number of lines (each with their own name), sails, and other sailboat gear, learning to sail might appear to be an impossible challenge. With a little patience, and help from an expert, anybody can learn to sail.

Most people don't know it, but many yacht clubs have both adult and child sailing schools that they run during the summer. These programs are frequently open to the public, and are probably one of the best ways to learn. The yacht clubs will provide the boats and the instructor for a relatively small fee. Over the course of just one summer, anyone can learn the basics.

Where to go to learn to sail:

J World Sailing School - This is arguably the best sailing school in the United States. With 5 locations (Annapolis, Key West, Newport, San Diego, and San Francisco), the most popular sailing locations are all covered.
